Beautiful Bol, Croatia’s hidden gem
The town of Bol is the go-to spot on the island of Brac.
Bol is one of Croatia’s hidden gems and if you want to switch off from world, visit a peaceful, relaxing, beautiful island, then you could do much worse than visit the beautiful town of Bol.
There’s something for everyone here: the famous Zlatni Rat beach, the Vidova Gora hike and a beautiful promenade which lines the town of Bol, filled with places to eat and drink at your leisure.
It’s a perfect couples or family retreat, but I wouldn’t recommend for the young 20-somethings like me who like to party. There is not much of a nightlife scene here in the town of Bol on Brac island.
The island of Hvar is the place for party, just a short ferry ride from Bol or Split.
How to get to Bol?
Bol is located on the south part of Brac Island and just a 50 minute ferry ride from Split.
Things to do in Bol?
Relax on Zlatni Rat Beach
Bol is probably most famous for Zlatni Rat beach, one of the best beaches in Croatia and Europe. Zlatni Rat translates as the Golden Horn and it gets the name thanks to it’s unique long, thin horn shape.
There is a slight breeze in the summer months which makes it the perfect beach to relax on for hours, just remember to keep applying sun screen. The breeze is nice but beware the sun will catch you out like it did to me!
Hike up Vidova Gora
If you fancy some breathtaking views and prepared to climb 788m for it, then I would recommend the Vidova Gora hike!
The hike is well sign posted and once you get to the starting point your path is marked by red/white markers, all the way to the top.
The 1 piece of advice I can give you is to set off no later than 07:30. In the summer months it can get very hot up there, but don’t let that put you off!
How long does it take to hike Vidova Gora?
At a leisurely pace it takes between 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes.
As I have already said, make sure you set off no later than 07:30 in the summer months, it can get hot up at the top.
Wander along the Promendade
The Bol promenade makes for a lovely pleasant walk, protected by the shade of the pine trees.
The promenade stretches all the way from the main port town of Bol to the famous Zlatni Rat beach. There’s plenty of places to stop off if you want to break up your walk, but the walk itself is manageable in one go and only about a mile long.
